This is what I found from the IRS website

The system is not ready yet for 2014 renewal.
I tried it this morning and it still has the 2013 renewal.

So I suggest that you wait until the announcements are
made via the chat boards and professional associations
that it's up and running and working.

"What is the status of renewing Preparer Tax Identification Numbers (PTIN) for 2014?

Due to the lapse in government funding, the 2014 PTIN renewal season is delayed. An email or letter will be sent to all current PTIN holders notifying you when the 2014 renewal season opens. The online PTIN system is still available for users to log in and view or change information or to secure a PTIN for 2013. Additional information will be provided on this site as it becomes available."

It seems all automated letters will still be generated because the beast is still working, even though the minions are not.

Thanks, was just thinking about "gettting ready for tax season" and what I had to do. This was on my list.
