    staffing a tax office

Does the person who interviews and fills out the input sheets need to have a tax preparer license in California? They will not complete or sign the tax return, only interview the client. Any idea where I can get more information on the subject?

    I would think not.

But to be sure you can check with CTEC:

" Q & A - Who is required to comply with the Tax Preparers Act?
Any person who for a fee, assists with or prepares a State or Federal tax return, or assumes responsibility for such a return, or who offers these services."

      In Oregon

You would need a license to do the interview and or fill out the interview sheets.

Where do the states get off by requiring licensing of clerical functions, such as filling out an input sheet?

The Fed. law does not require that.

I took to mean taking numbers from source documents and inputting on worksheet?
