Return rejected codes 902 and 906. I was filing 990N the E postcard using Drake Software because the free system one links to from the IRS website is not free for prior year returns although I did read something about a paid option for doing those. Since my software is supposed to have this function I saw no reason to pay whomever is running that service. "The return type indicated in the return header must match the return type established with the IRS for the EIN" is 902 and 906 is "The EIN in the return must have been established as an exempt organization return filer in the efile database". One more relevant fact is that the notice to which we are responding specified that they were looking for a 990-EZ not a 990-N. I just went with the N because I was not aware of any reason why the charity did not qualify. The upshot of all this to me is that I should be fling 990-ez not 990-N and that efiling is not an option. I want someone to tell me whether I am right or wrong and if I am wrong how to efile whatever. I know how to prepare a 990 or 990-EZ for this very simple charity. By the way the reason the return is late is that the President thought the treasurer was doing the filings and we now know that she stopped after 2009 and eventually disappeared. In another thread I said that she had resigned but apparently that is not the case. I was right about the fact that the Sheriff wants to discuss with her certain matters unrelated to the Nonprofit and he can't find her either.
