    Nice to relax, isn't it?

I feel like somebody who's just been released from prison. Went out back of the office and stared for awhile at white clouds in the clear blue, my sycamore tree starting to green-up, robins/jays/red-wing blackbirds flittin' around, and breathed some cool and fresh spring air for a change. Gosh, it feels great!

Guess I could louse around today and do nothing at all, but I hate junk and chores piling up, so I've been cleaning out the office today (my idea of fun I suppose), throwing out all the old junk, paper, forms, etc. and burning it (one of the privileges of living in the sticks--no several days of shredding--just one day of flame). It's nice to get rid of all the old stuff--feels like you're cleaned house and everything's new.

Hope you're all having a good time, too, doing whatever you like to do.

    'Bye.

    It is, I think???

    Hi Bart,

Today is the first day off I've had since the last week in December. I'm not sure what I feel today. Slept until 8:30 this morning (rarely do this), a little lightheaded from the fresh air, eyes are dancing around, etc. Sort of seems like the Twilight Zone!

On 4/15, I was driving to work and told my wife it felt like the last day of school, then I realized I had two more days to go, but I did not let that dampen my spirits. Yesterday, I geared up for a hellish day and it was. I have never been so happy to lock the doors to my office, ever. I emailed Sandy last night and asked her if she ever saw the movie "Night of the Living Dead". She has not, so she doesn't know what the office was like yesterday!

Anyway, to make a long story short, it's over for a few days. I now have 13 days to permanently move out of my office and settle in here at home for a few months before I look for new office space, if I think I need it. Not sure how this will work out, but I'm about to find out. Also, I'm not sure how I did money-wise. I will take a look at that next month. Sure feels like I did very good, but the bottomline may tell a different story.

      Dennis / "Twilight Zone."

Good for you and good luck. You probably did okay, money-wise--it's just hard to keep track of when you're runnin' flat-out like you've, no doubt, been doin'. About all we have time to do--Jan/Apr--is stick it in the bank and count up later.

I think you aptly and accurately described just exactly how many of us feel. The sudden, uncharacteristic lull does seem to daze me a bit. It's an out-of-bodyish sense--like a Twilight Zone episode, isn't it?

      Best regards, BB

You must be proud of yourself for your accomplishments so far. Coming to a strange
          country and starting over.
Congratulations to you and may the Good Lord Bless and Keep You.

I've still got payroll, bookkeeping, and extensions to do. But the pressure is definately off. I took the day off... basically. I came in and did a little bookkeeping. I helped my Mom put out some spring flowers and decorate the house. Was nice not worrying if my voice mail was filled out or not.

                Filing Deadline come and gone

Oh how sweet, worked clear through the weekend, had actually hoped to have all done by 4/14, but that wasn't to be.

But got enough done with extensions emailed and faxed, and efiled that 4/17 wasn't so bad, just those usual procrastinators that always wait until the last minute. Extension only if they could email or fax info, otherwise too bad!

Too much to do to take a day off, like some of the other people here on the board, payroll taxes, sales tax, plus some late K-1 forms for amended returns. So have to minimize those interest charges!

So Tuesday was nice, slow easy pace, clean up, re organize.
Actually the evening was nice, as my husband and I sat in the back yard, had a glass of wine, and watched and listened to the wild life, bunnies,(new babies at that), birds (and more new babies and nesting) , etc.

So it is nice to be able to enjoy Spring and see the other life around us that we have not been able to enjoy!

Hope everyone had a good tax season and much thanks for everyone that has been there all season long on the Board.

                Sandy

                  Two days off!

I always take two days off after Tax Day! Slept in, until 5:30 AM the first day, and 6:00 AM this morning! Worked in the yard yesterday, planning some of the same this morning, and then taking the lady boss shopping (she doesn't drive). I will take it easy at work Thursday and Friday, just clearing my desk of 3 weeks of stuff that needs looking at. Staff person takes care of the sales tax and quarterly reports.

I am tired of all of these long tax season hours and working every weekend. I am going to restructure my office, get rid of certain time-consuming clients, and one staff person to eliminate overhead. It is a hard step to take with clients who you have had for many years, but I don't want to work my self to death.

                    Tuesday night

Had a little impromtu dinner with 6 EA's in area. Just to talk about the season and what is going on in our area.

It was nice since I already knew a couple of them but met a couple of new ones. It is good to keep track of each other.

Then came home and watched American Idol. I know I'm a reality show junkie!!! But last night was a really good night.

Now on to today's own mess.

                      this is strange but wonderful

hi everyone-hoping you are all recovering and pampering yourselves a little. i always feel like a fish out of water the first few days after the 15th. i am relieved that i have a life again but feel a little wierd. just took a walk down at the beach, long island ny, and it's beautiful to see everything in bloom and have time to enjoy it. my daughter is home from college for spring break and we can actually have a conversation. she told me that when she calls from school during tax season she can tell i'm busy because my voice is in tax season mode. my son's fiancee asked my daughter if i was mad at her since i didn't talk long on the phone and my daughter just said no mom's in tax eason mode! i felt bad but also thought it was funny had no idea but of course they also call at 10 pm when i'm exhaused.

tomorrow will be back to work but at a slower pace. thanks so much for all the help you all provided over tax season. it's a comfort to know i have people to bounce those grey areas off of. even the black and white issues when my brain is to fried to think straight.

                      enjoy!!!!

                        Relaxed by Cooking Lunch Today

                        Black Bart:

I cooked pinto beans, heat a pork roast, made a spicy hot salsa of tomatoes, onions, and jalenpo peppers and baked a pan of corn bread for lunch today. That was topped off with a glass of peach iced tea (sweet of course). Much better eating than restaurant fare. My wife would not let me put cracklins in the cornbread. She looks out for my welfare.

Sounds great. I BBQ'd some homemade burgers last night, with loads of homemade picante sauce on mine. Tonight we are having homemade chicken fried steaks. I love cooking, but don't have too much time until now. My wife loves that I can cook. I usually cook, she cleans up the kitchen. Never complains.

                            Cookin' Colleagues

Y'all sure do make it sound good. My wife's more than a fair hand at it (makes a really wonderful pot roast), but I've been threatenin' to learn how to cook for years. I want to do it on the outside grill like all the macho guys, but she says that, first, I have to learn how to light the thing.

I'd like to cook steaks on it, but hers are always so good that I kind of lose interest in learnin' by the time she gets done with 'em.

I baked some kind of brownies once, but we were out of something on the list and I substituted Kool-Aid for it. Durn dog wouldn't even eat it.

Sandy/ Think I may buy a bottle with a real cork to celebrate.

Theresa/ Is Long Island near NYC? There's a beach there? Do you work in town or there?

                              about long island

black bart- i live on long island and work from my home. the island is 120 miles long and the nyc boroughs of queens and brooklyn are on the western end of long island. i'm in the suburbs about 50 miles from Manhattan. it's truly an island with the atlantic ocean on the south shore (i'm sure you are familiar with the Hamptons?) and the long island sound on the north shore. i live on the north shore and connecticut is across the long island sound. so we are surrounded by water! lots of beaches. it is truly beautiful. do a lot of boating in the summer.

have been enjoying the down time but will have to push myself back to work today. have some monthly bookkeeping and payroll tax to do. but ahh it feels good.

                              enjoy that bottle of wine!!!
