Debt Forgiveness--Deceased Father

I have a client who's Dad died like 5 years ago. He had debt that she continued to pay for morally even though she was told not to pay. The debt was forgiven and 1099 issued in dead dad's name. She is not in any way responsible for this income is she?

It was not her debt. She really didn't have to pay any of it. They should have written it off a long time ago.

Dad is insolvent at time of debt discharge. He owns nothing and owes them some money.
