That would be a weird situation, by mere definition.

It is my understanding that the underlying purpose of any NR return is for a "non-resident alien" to report/pay taxes only on certain US income.

This is the opposite side of the coin from where a US citizen is responsible for reporting world-wide income.

FWIW: You may need to give some consideration to From 8443 and, of course, hopefully you are not having to deal with a "dual status" scenario for 2012?? Those types of returns can quickly become traumatic.

That would be Form 8843 ( http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f8843.pdf ) which frequently accompanies NR tax returns.
