Just had a client who gets it leave here, and on the way out the door, she asks, "Should I be working more?"

I knew exactly what she was asking, but I said, "If you would like to have more money, I'd always work as much as I could. Bye now. Bye. Now."

He said that some of the employees would stop working from two to three months so they could just earn enough to get EIC. Then if they had more than three children they would sell the child's SS# so someone else could claim and get the EIC. First time I had ever heard of this.

Basic EIC 101

Happens all the time. As for the SS#, it wasn't that long ago when you maxed out with two children, so even more "extras" to go around for grandparents, aunts, uncles, and an occasional "buyer."

Two of my clients who are custodial parents and have been claiming their children for years just told me that the non-custodial parent has also been claiming the child and getting away with it. If the IRS wants to close a loophole this is it. One of the clients went through an audit over the issue which we won sice she had daycare and medical records. I gave the auditor the non-custodial parents name, address and SSN and asked what the service was going to do about him. No reply of course, just the closing letter.
