    Mortgage Interest, Who Can Deduct?

    Two friends on the mortgage statement. I'm thinking both make payments. Is the deduction based on how much each one pays? If each pay equal, each takes half? Any explanation due the IRS?

    Yes and yes. Make sure you report the interest on line 11 instead of line 10 for the person whose SSN is not on the 1098. That'll avoid matching issues with the IRS.
