or IRS.gov "where to file" you can get a list of all form filing locations based on state of residence/preparation
Believe nothing you have not personally researched and verified.

        Software

Doesn't your software print filing instructions with the address on there?
I would put a favorite quote in here, but it would get me banned from the board.

Not if you efile the return and who wouldn't if they can.

What does e-filing have to do with 1040X?
My software, if a client has to mail in a return or has to do an amendment, the correct instructions print with correct mailing addresses. Maybe they are using "I get everything for $300" software.

"When all ELSE fails, read the instructions" is somewhat of a lost art.

( I'm still scratching my head over the software providing a mailing address for an efiled Form 1040X. . . )

I thought with metafile system we could file, at least, the last two years. Is that only business returns? or is it only 1040's not X's?

                    From http://www.irs.gov/Help-&-Resources/...mended-Returns

Question: Can I file an amended Form 1040X electronically?

                    Answer:

At this time, the Form 1040X (PDF), Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, is not accepted electronically; only an original tax return may be electronically filed. You must file a paper Form 1040X. If you are due a refund, you will be issued a check and cannot use direct deposit.
