    help

I have a client who now lives in Arizona and owns a business rental property in Washington. The building is old (1951) AND PRETTY RUN DOWN. mY CLIENT SPENT $22000 repairing the roof that was leaking. My question,...do I have to depreciate that whole amount or could I take part of it as a 179 now?
The building is so old and to try to depreciate it for 39 years seems like a big waste. Any idea's?
    Thanks

    179 on Real estate

You are unable to take section 179 on buildings. However, I believe there have been some court case that allow the roof repairs to be expensed as repairs and maintenance, rather than capitalizing.
