    Thanks Burke, but you have to have a program that formats it, don't you? John piqued my interest as he was talking about formatting an Excel worksheet to print in the correct format on the detached blank forms.

    Now you have me wondering about another thing: If you just do the red one and throw the rest away, what do you put in your client's employer file and what do you send to the payee/recipient? You must have a 1099 software program that gives you the employer and payee forms?

    These forms are not included in my tax prep software.

      What an excellent idea! I never thought of formatting Excel to print the 1099/1096 forms. Have you done this and do you care to share your worksheet?
      It's a very simple layout - really just a way to drop the typed info onto a preprinted form.
      I don't know of a way to upload an Excel file to the forum.
      If you want to PM me your email address, I'll be happy to email it to you.
      (You may find that you need to tweak the spacing a little in order to accommodate your printer)
