Has anybody heard how many preparers still need to take the exam?

Hasn't taken test yet
I heard at a tax seminar this week that about 300,000 still need to take it. Apparently they are waiting until next year. They also said that those who take the test after May 2013 will be tested on the new tax laws that come out. Until then the test will only include 2011 taxes. They noted that the volunteers that do taxes for the IRS will also have to adhere to circular 230 at some point. And, yes, the IRS is leaning towards having us preparers do a lot of the auditing because they are being cut drastically.
