    Nondeductible IRA contr

Taxpayer and spouse are both in employer plans. SPouse wants to make additional traditional IRA contr. They are over phase-out limits for IRA contribution to be deductible. If it is nondeductible, do they still have to file jointly?? (They live together all yr).

Yes they can file separate and still contribute to ira as non deductable. Are they over the income limits to contribute to Roth IRA. You do have to file jointly for Roth but a lot better deal in the long run.
