    Deductions for dependent studying overseas

I have a client who has spent over $41,000 last year for dependent college expenses. Approximately, $6K was for international travel, lodging, passport, airline etc. The American Opportunity Credit is maxed just by tuition. Is there any creative ways to deduct some of the international expenses?

I'll be the first to answer then

Short answer is no, chalk it up to a great experience over in a foreign land and not a deductible expense. Tell your client I am willing to learn anything if they will pay for my vacation!
