    Priest-gifts

    Priest retires and community throws him a party. Gifts totaling 20,000.00 were given to him. Is this taxable to him?

      Question for you

      When you have a birthday party, do you report the gifts on your tax return?
      To me, these situations are analagous.

          Payments or gifts made by a congregation and others to a retired minister (because of age or disability), if he is not expected to perform any further services, are non-taxable.
