Depending on your definition of "host of others" and how many "20+ years" actually works out to be, that would mean you were changing tax software about every other year. WOW! That's incredible! You have a lot more stamina than I do!

        Software

It seems there have been a number of mergers and aquisitions and closures over the years. So, sometimes we were forced to find new software when ours no longer existed or stopped doing what we'd bought it to do. Then, there were times when we outgrew our software. And, other times when its price outgrew our practice. Or, we merged or were acquired and inherited software along with the new business organization. Many ways to have unplanned software changes.

          Drake

I use Drake Software and I tend to stick with a program, in particular, if I get familiar with it. Drake give you all state programs and free electronic filing. Also, 1120, 1120s, 1065. Great support. Paid $995.00 which has been the same for some time. Not familiar with other programs and their costs. Gets better every year. The $995.00 is the renewal rate. Is this expensive?

            Drake

For what you get with Drake you can consider that a good price. I have a preparer friend in Florida that uses Drake and won't use any other software. I tried their demo but didn;t like the interface. Guess I'm one of those preparers that just wants a flawless program with all the bells and whistles for a low price. (I don't think that package exists.) Thanks for your input.

              new ATX user

I have used Drake and TaxAct but went with ATX for 2005 to save some money, I hope I won't be dissapointed.

Has anyone had any problems with errors in the ATX program? I know Drake has to send out numerous updates every year, I would rather go with a company that takes the time to get it right to begin with.

TaxAct is a great little program, but like some said, the e-filing fees got me last year and then because I had one C-corp to file, I had to get ProSeries pay per return for the 8 business returns that I had.

I will save about $450 this year.

So you only want to do returns that were extended to October?

I use Pro Series By Intuit. I initially started using Tax Act but as my customer base grew I went to Pro Series that you can do up to 200 individual returns and chose 2 states. I think that this year I will use 795 which includes all states and unlimited federal individual and business taxes.

                    TaxWise Software

I notice that Universal Tax Systems "TaxWise" is no where to be found in the above posts.

                    Just curious.

                      Best way to efile

There is a program put out by Profit Developers Inc. It dovetails with many software packages to take care of the efiling. My associate deals with them so I don't have their phone number or email address. Try a google search.

Just checked the web site, would cost me $12,050 to e-file.

Are you talking about the "normal" ProSeries" program or the "Basics"?

I pay way more for my ProSeries. Maybe you have a special deal I don't know about?

                              We Pay $600

I suggest you recheck something. They have an unlimited efile program for about $600.

                                TaxSlayer Pro

I've waited long enough. If you are looking for a good, practical tax software that includes everything including efiles then check out TaxSlayer Pro. It is a program designed by and used by tax professionals in the field. Billy O.
