Schedule c business owner pays mechanic to repair business auto, would a 1099 be required for the mechanic?

I think it would be required, if the total for the year is over $600.00.
Unless...
Is the mechanic some guy that does this on the side, working out of the garage at his house? If so, then yes, I think a 1099-MISC should be issued.
On the other hand, if the mechanic is running an auto repair shop...
I think it is very unlikely--not impossible, but very, very unlikely--that the repair shop is a sole proprietorship.
It's probably an LLC, or something else. And that might eliminate the need for a 1099.
