Worth noting
JohnH and others have certainly raised a valid point.
I have some (as yet unexpressed here) personal knowledge of how different jurisdictions deal with the K9s and their handlers. There is a lot of investment involved with a German shepherd dog or a Belgian Malinois. One would think the law enforcement agencies would do a much better job of managing such an investment and properly reimbursing the officers who work with the K9s. Many agencies do...and sadly many agencies do not.
I always give special consideration to LEOs and to those in the military, feeling the least I can do to thank them is to provide a break on tax preparation charges.
One obstacle I did encounter was the local practice of many/most LEOs being paid for their regular "side" security jobs (usually in full uniform) with Forms 1099-MISC. We all know why their "employers" did such. But they did not like my interpretation of the underlying need for Sch SE, so many instead went to more "open-minded" preparers. ("Well, I reported the income....what's the problem??") Such is the way things go, sometimes.
