Amend to MFS

I overlooked the fact that you can always amend a return and pay more tax. Anyway this client thinks I am a hero.

Am I right in thinking that a joint return cannot be amended to MFS after the deadline?

Background - client saves 11K total filing MFS this year because he is in a lower bracket and she is lower still and I was about to paw up the earth and see if he could save anything amending the three open years but then there was a little voice in the back of my head saying I couldn't do that.

Right. sorta. You can amend, but not for a refund.
