Are you using the 1040X in your tax software for the year 2009? I have a 2009 to amend and am not sure whether it would be better to fill in by hand a new form.

Your software for 2009 should have the correct Form 1040X within.
IIRC, I encountered a software update (to fix that issue) well after the end of the main tax season.
First plan would to be find the "update" button and see what happens.
As for filling in by hand....what's that??

In my software you can do a prior year amended return in this year's program. Check to see if you can in yours.

should be able to use that 2009 1040X funny form. I have filed a few amendments with it successfully including one of my own in June of last year.Comment

Current year 1040X form should have prior years on it. Check at top. But it is easier to use the old software if you have it to calculate.Comment
