I have a client that worked in sales for a Tire company. They required all sales people to purchase a truck so they could make deliveries, if necessary. The next year, they closed the office in the city he lives in and he was laid off. All of the sales people that were required to buy a truck were going to sue, but the company settled out of court. He received $2500 and a 1099-MISC. Is this taxable, since it was a settlement for a requirement of his job which he lost through no fault of his own? If so, I assume it would just go on line 21.
