Casinos are giving people a year-end report of money in and money out to show they lost.
When they give a W2G they now tell them they don't need to have withholding due to the new IRS rules that you can net your income.
So add that to the list of tax experts.

      That beats all...

        Friday the 13th Part III

I have missed two calls from a gal who owes, and has not picked up. Her messages sound desparate. I call her back.

Gal: "If I mail the check to IRS Tuesday, will it clear my bank before Friday?"

And, you know, when a person asks something stupid, they frequently follow it up. So, then she admits: "I've known this way coming, and I have the money in my savings account, I just can't get to the bank before Friday."

If you loan someone $20 and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Playing this movie out, her check bounces, and then what?

Had this in my collection of "Bad Questions" yesterday, and wasn't sure what to tell the client. She found out from her bank the check was returned NSF. Wasn't sure if she should send another check before Tuesday, or if IRS will try a re-deposit.

Not sure, but I guarantee you she will call me when whatever it is happens. Sigh.

I think the days of "re-deposit" are long gone. When they bounce, there is no "running back through."
