    cancellation of debt

Taxpayer received 1099 cancellation of debt -states for a credit card. It came in the name of deceased spouse. Spouse has been deceased for 3 years. Spouse had a small business as a barber and taxpayer stated as far as she knew, he must have used it in his businesss. It is in the amount of 1500. Should taxpayer include it in income. It is in the name and social security number of deceased spouse only.

    Thanks for your input.

She's off scot free. Certainly it's not her income, right? Since bank can't collect it's apparent that deceased left no estate. If IRS ever sends a letter asking, simply reply with the facts.
