    W-2 State Wages

Taxpayer is a resident of IL. Box 1 of the W-2 is 368,000, Box 16 of W-2 for NC is 245,000 and Box 16 of W-2 for NY is 368,000. Taxpayer files NR returns for NC and NY and uses the state wages from the W-2. It sure looks like taxpayer is overpaying for the NR states.

Shouldn't the total state wages total the federal wages in Box 1?

    Thanks,
    David

New York requires employers to list total wages in the state box of the W2, so you will need to adjust the NY wages when you do the IT-203.
