    California Help Needed

MFJ one dependent taxpayers lived in NC the whole year had about 33K of wages 29$ of interest both NC Sourced and $1008 of unemployment insurance from California. Will California be expecting a return and if so what income will it try to tax?

    Calif UI

California does not tax the EDD State UI benefits, looks like it is a carryover on a Calif UI Claim

There is not a requirement to file a California return, but I might file a return to close out the California records, I would file as a non-resident with -0- Calif sourced income. There is a CA NR sheet to complete showing dates of moves and residency, etc.

Just to hold off any nastygrams, I'd file a final CA return showing the taxpayers date of move, like Sandy suggested. CA is notorious for looking for possible in-state sources of income, and the statute of limitations is 20 years. Better to file an NR and be done with it.
