Is IRS on the ball or what?

Taxpayers spouse (MFJ) receives a CP141 letter for 2011 re "exceededing max contribution amt into HSA" additional tax. The taxpayers 2011 tax return has yet to be filed and yes that same amt will be deducted from the refund. This is first time I have ever saw a letter from the IRS addressed to the TP's spouse with the TP's spouses SS#.

The IRS is moving toward "real-time" filing. They must have picked it up from the third-party report to them and wanted to alert the taxpayer so the funds could be taken out of the account before any penalty occurred.

Well, in no time at all they will be able to just send us a bill for what they think our earning potential is for the upcoming year. We will have to pay it, then file at the end of the year based on actual earnings. If a refund is due, it will automatically be applied to the next year's tax liabiilty since they won't be wasting a lot of time and resources issuing refund checks any longer.

Can't wait to be a part of that system.
