Kentucky Help

Client lived all year in Kentucky. W2 and client say client worked in city of Richmond which client says is near Louisville and in Madison County. Software has dropdown menu for cities and Richmond is not an option so I chose Louisville. I'm not getting any negative diagnostics from the computer but what concerns me is I am not getting a Louisville or Richmond city return. The last time I did a KY return I did a city return by going to State of KY Website and downloading a fillable PDF. Now that I have more expensive and capable software I was hoping not to have to do that.

I have contacted my software tech support by email and am waiting to hear. I will check out the State Website but I wondered if anyone here had any helpful ideas.

Update - I will probably hear from the software company tonight or tomorrow. I found email addresses for the county and for the city and wrote to them but of course those won't be read until Monday and responded to on Monday if I'm fortunate.

Did the employer withhold 2%?

Employees usually are not required to file if the proper tax is withheld.

Richmond is near Lexington, not Louisville. There are no cities in Kentucky that have local returns to file. Local tax rates are set by each individual city and the flat rate withheld from income. No return that needs to be filed. Not sure what software you use, but with Tax Slayer, I just enter whatever city the tax was withheld for. I can enter anything I want for locality with no dropdown menu. Local tax where I live is 2% but not the same for all cities in Kentucky
