    Related Work

Not to worry Jesse, Taxea and Snaggletooth have problems with each other going back for awhile. No need to drag others into it.

I will say, however, affirmative to her tax preparation and also assisting people filling out forms for govt benefits, student aid, mortgage processing, etc. If she were paid for this as well as for tax prep, I would say the paperwork processing would be closely enough related that IRS would consider it contiguous in nature to her mainstream occupation. SE tax would be due.

      Similar 1099-misc issue

I am dealing with a CP2000 arising from a very similar situation, except I deducted some costs on line 21. Sat on a tack I think. It will be cheaper to ammend and add a schedule C even though this is a "one time event"

Without more details, there's no way to comment on whether or not those deductions were appropriate. However, have you tried contacting the IRS, explaining why you think this isn't subject to SE tax?
