Education Credit American Opp Can I take

I have a client that received 2008 Hope credit and 2009 Amer Opp, 2010 Amer Opp

This is all on the same student and he was in his 3rd year of college 2011. If I read the rules correctly can he get Amer Opp for 2011 and then his final year 2012 get the final on Amer Opp

No, you can only claim the Hope/AOC for a total of four tax years. You will use up the 4th year in 2011.

Or your can amend of the previous (open) years to take the Adjustment to Income or Lifetime Learning instead of the Hope/AOC if that makes economic sense.
