    Is the contributions the employer pays taxable to the employee in any way??

    Normally it is tax free and, depending on plan, also excluded from SS taxes.

      I fill out form 8889 for the client with HSA (W 12). If the client received any distributions
      put them on line 14a. If all the distributions was used for medical expenses show the same amount on line 15. You will see there is no reportable income. Distributions not used from medical expenses are taxable income. This is the way I do it.
