Settled a disgreement over who gets the refund by introducing Form 8888 into the breach. Smiles! They even allocated for the tax prep fee, as that was coming out of one the spouse's checkbooks. I'm going to suggest that form more often.

Well, there you go! Thanks for the reminder. Forgot about that little jewel.If you loan someone $20 and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

If the refund isn't fully funded the ordering rules can cause nightmares. Imagine you split the refund 50/50 between a separated-but-married couple. The IRS funds exactly half the refund and applies the other half to some IRS debt or FMS or whatever.
You would think the IRS would simply issue half of what is left to each person. In fact what they do is go down the 8888 and fund the accounts as they are listed. So one person is going to get all of that refund and the other is going to be very mad and hopefully they don't blame the preparer.
