    Energy Credit-furnace And Ac

Client Installed A Furnace And Ac For $6000. The Costs Are Not Actually Broken Down On The Invoice But The Supplier Says He Should Get A $200 Credit On The Furnace And $300 Credit For The Ac. What Lines On The 5695 Are Entered So This Will Come Out?

Before you enter any amount anywhere, insist of the manufacturer's certification that each unit qualifies.
Do NOT just take the supplier's word for it.

      Form 5695

The Form 5695 is fairly self-explanatory as to what goes on specific lines.

It would appear from your post that line 6 entries would be applicable.

I would strongly suggest you get a detailed invoice and make the decisions yourself. And as ChEAr$ has noted, you need to be sure you don't run amiss of the "qualified" rules for items placed on Form 5695.

BTW: "Suppliers" generally should not be considered a reliable source for tax information.

        My 2 cents

First it is $150 and $300 maximums.
Second I don't see how you could get Central air and an energy efficient heat source for $6,000 installed. Remember installation counts fo rhtese items. Where I live an energy efficient heating unit costs like $6-8k. AC 3k. Maybe they did a heat pump. However, if it is a heat pump you only get the $300 credit. A heat pump is the AC unit that does not require ducts.

          Another reason to question systems

GREAT POINT - Having recently endured a deceased furnace and having to spend around twice the dollar amount mentioned for a new furnace/AC system, your point is valid. (And supposedly I also got a "bargain" price due to it now being off-season for the contractors.)

I'm still spittin' I did not incur those expenses a few months earlier....

I personally had these installed last year and they cost $6200. and then I took the $1500 energy credit. Net cost of $4700.

Your client (and you) must still have the manufacturer's certificate in hand.

                The Price Is Right

I paid $6,437 during a heat wave in August. And that included some labor to get the old a/c working for two weeks before they could install the new units. 95% gas furnace, ECM fan, multi-stage multi-setback thermostat, Energy Star a/c, etc. No federal credit since I had already used over my $500 worth on windows the previous years, but NY State (not thru income tax) sent me a $480 recate check.

I did NOT buy from the lowest bidder.

                  Interesting price ranges

I must be living in the wrong part of the country....

I recently installed a weLl known national brand: Furnace (AFUE 95.0%), A/C (>14.00 SEER), and coil using existing duct work for a bit less than $12k. And that was at the current "off-season" prices.

Granted, one expects to pay more for the higher efficiency units, but isn't that part of the process? I will get token rebates from both the gas company (heat) and electric company (A/C) for installing energy-efficient units.

FWIW: I had a couple of clients within the past two years who paid more for a furnace (only) than the totals being cited here for heat+A/C.

And, no, I do not live in Minnesota or in the tropics.
