    Drake Client Write-Up

If anyone is using this, how do you like it, dislikes, etc.?

    Thanks,

The best thing is the ability to use IRS FIRE to efile 1099 forms. It isn't terrible for doing payroll, but limited when it comes to creating State payroll forms and tricky on getting the 941 forms to come out right. I think it's pretty full of bugs, frankly.

I haven't tried to use it for write up, but the reports are ugly and I don't think it's very user friendly. I also believe the learning curve on how to enter everything is going to take a long time. It's pretty dark ages and seems to be modeled after the green ledger sheets.

That's not what I expected, as the tax software is really good. I was thinking I could replace QB with Drake's.

      Thank you.

You could give a try with an easy set of books and let us know how it works out. Maybe it's just the ugliness of it. Drake's reports are no where near as pretty as Lacerte's.

I will do that when I can play a little bit. My needs are not even close to what you would need.

            I tried CWU

My office moved from Peachtree to CWU for a dozen bookkeeping clients. We found it full of bugs, very hard to use, and the technical support was not very good. Totally unlike the tax technical support. After a year of problems we rushed back to Peachtree.

It is not sounding good so far. 0-2.

I looked at it when I was considering changing to Drake. And that was part of the reason I was thinking of changing. So I tried to do a little bookkeeping in CWU.

But I agree about the reports. They look like you sat at a typewriter and typed out a report. I really don't want to give my clients that kind of a report. So I kind of backed away.

TaxslayerPro also has a bookkeeping program, Taxslayer Books. So I am trying that this year to see how it will work. I can efile my 941's through the program so for that reason it should be worth it. I'll let you know after we have used it a while and let you know what we think.

Unfortunately I have to agree on Drake CWU. I tried a inputting a new client's bookkeeping on it. It is not very user friendly. For me the Home screen... well that is what I call it... the icons were all out of line and messed up. After entering several months of bookkeeping I switched the client back over to QBs.

I would really love to find an alternative to QBs for bookkeeping and payroll. The cost of the proadvisor program went up to $800 this year. I thought I could just get the accountants version and accountants payroll separately. Find out I would only save $100 bucks. I have some opinions on the proadvisor program. Really do not think it is worth the price anymore.

                    QB and Pro Advisor

                    Yes Dany,
I am sure most of us (QB Pro Advisor) are scrambling around - Intuit is just not supporting Pro Advisors or what the needs are - I might as well just buy my software like a regular user and then support my Client QB needs, and charge them for what I do - and not pay the extra fee. Wondering know if I even need the Accountant's version.??

Let alone look at what Turbo Tax has done and their NEW program - that should upset some of the people that are Pro Series and LaCerte users for Tax Programs as well.

Seems like Intuit now is all about capturing the Market and so much for any Professionals that assisted them in growing their Market!

This is the reason I thought I might make a switch, Dany. It comes free with the tax software and I thought if it was as good as the tax package, that would be the way to go for me.

I'm so happy all of you jumped in with your assessments. I appreciate that.
