    Support Test

Is Social Security income considered as money provided by others when concidering a dependent exemption.

Page 3-17 of TTB is confusing to me under the heading "support provided by taxpayer" includes "non-taxable income" and the next paragrapgh under "support provided by others" seems to include social security income.

Bottom line,,,,,,Is SS income consided support provided by the recipient?

      If used for support

If used for support, Social Security funds are considered provided by the recipient, like other pensions. SSI, however, is public assistance, provided by others like welfare.
