    New 2848 Form

This is probably a "dumb" question, but I don't seem to be able to find the instruction for the additional column under Part II

Under Part II - Declaration of Representative - we now have a new column or renamed Column (Licensing jurisdiction (state) or other) so as EA we enter US Treasury Dept or Internal Revenue Service

then (License/Bar or Enrollment Number) we enter our EA Number

In the column for Licensing jurisdiction(if applicable) I left blank as in not applicable (?)and entered the enrollment number in the next column. It went thru with no problem.

      Thanks Jesse,
Seems like they changed the columns - and did not update the instructions - and was to accomodate some of the new reporting on licensing.

Sandy what did the instructions for the form say to put there? I would have thought they would be asking for the State you are registered with them in. I haven't looked at the instructions yet.

Taxea - look at the instructions - they are not totlaly clear for the additional or relabeld column, otherwise I would not have asked for an opinion on the Board,

It is bad enough that we have to file two separate 2848 forms for married joint, and my software does not seem to be completing correctly for the new column under Part II - and there seems to be not quite clear instructions
            Part II. Declaration of Representative
The representative(s) you name must sign and date this declaration and enter the designation (for example, items a-r) under which he or she is authorized to practice before the IRS. Representatives
must sign in the order listed in line 2 above. In addition, the representative(s) must list the following in the “Licensing jurisdiction/other Licensing Authority” column:

a Attorney—Enter the two-letter abbreviation for the state (for example, “NY” for New York) in which admitted to practice and associated license number.
b Certified Public Accountant—Enter the two-letter abbreviation for the state (for example, “CA” for California) in
which licensed to practice and associated license number.
c Enrolled Agent—Enter the enrollment card number issued the Office of Professional Responsibility.
d Officer—Enter the title of the officer (for example, President, Vice President, or Secretary).
e Full-Time Employee—Enter title or position (for example, Comptroller or Accountant).

            Etc
So I am still unclear - but am thinking under Licensing Jurisdiction (State) column (1st Column after Designation) we enter our EA #, just don't know about the next Column License/Bar or Enrollment Number Column (leave blank or re-enter our EA #)

I will probably have a clearer definition when I enter this POA on E-Services, but then who knows and I probably completed this first one incorrectly on paper, however, the information is there. Maybe I am just tired and over thinking this.

Sandy I'll do some research on this and see what I can figure out. I hate that we have to do separate POA's but I kinda understand why.

Okay I got an answer from a very reliable source:

As an EA your jurisdictional authority is the IRS. As an attorney my jurisdictional authority is the state of Illinois. The box is required so that IRS can check to see if a rep is properly licensed as a CPA or lawyer.
