    SSN or ITIN?

Is a number that starts with 954 an ITIN? That is the number that is on this tax return for a new client. It is the husband's number.

It says they don't qualify for EIC because spouse's social security number is not valid.

Tried to find out about this number but guess I don't know how.

    SSN vs. ITIN

    That looks like an ITIN.

And for the curious here is how Social Security has assigned numbers by State.

Once they get a SS# they can amend their returns and get the EIC.

Any number starting with a 9 is an ITIN.

Don't ATINs start with 9 too? Or is my brain fried?
