    Hsa 1099s

1099 HSA box 1 shows Gross distribution amount. Taxpayer indicates all used for medical expense. Must form 8889 be filed if all used for medical.
form 8889 Line 14 a Groos distribuiton listed here makes it taxable with my software, so
I also listed it on Line 15 which results in no tax one the distribution. I only have a few of these per year and trying to do it correcty. Any guidance would be great.

That's my take on it. If you don't complete 8889, you will get a CP2000 from the IRS. I dealt with this on more than one occasion the first year they came out. The form documents that the TP states the distribution was used entirely for qualified medical expenses (or in part if that is the case -- in which he will have taxable income for the excess.)

Yeah, as Burke said, you must complete the 8889 and it should show $-0- taxable.
