    e-Services

First off, I do not use e-services much so I could be missing something really simple.

Just tried to enter a POA on e-services. I was not able to verify the signature of the spouse. I tried using the AGI from 2 different years, including the same AGI that matched for the husband. I even went through the entire process a second time just in case I had entered the SS# incorrectly, but still no luck. Birth date was same as on tax returns that I have efiled for last 7 years. Do I need to do a separate POA for each spouse through e-services now just like with the 2848? if not, any idea of what may have caused this?

Are you sure the Birth date is correct?

I had the same problem which turned out to be the date of birth - I had the correct month, the correct year - never had a problem efiling the return but the signature verification would not work.

I concluded that the month and year, or maybe just year, must be correct for efiling, but the day does not matter, however for eservices signature verification it must be exact.

I am using the exact birth date the taxpayers gave me - in fact they wrote the numbers down for me the first year I did their taxes. Guess I always thought the exact birth date had to match for efile to work. Anyone know for sure about this?

        Electronic POA

I would try entering the data as two separate POAs.

The recent changes in Form 2848 may have had an impact.

Did your clients sign two separate Forms 2848?

          E-services

New POA separate for each taxpayer - so I would try that - I haven't filed POA in since this changed - so I have no experience yet!

KB - I did have an instance a year or so ago - that my files simply contained the wrong birth date - I was off "one day" on the DOB - day

Efile of the actual return does not seem to check the DOB as close as the E-Services , as Jesse pointed out in her post, it does matter for e-services on POA and the verification process.

Problem solved. Called taxpayer today. Spouse was born overseas and birth date has always had an issue. Gave me another date to try - same month, but different day and year even. Went through as a joint POA right away. Guess efile really does not check DOB very closely.

              Birthdates

Your information was a bit dated...

                I would say yes

I would say yes until I read you latest post....so you were able to input both spouses on one 2848 in eservices? Well then, in the words of Arte Johnson "interesting, but not too funny"
