    W-2's

I have someone that brought me in their payroll for two w-2's done in excel. They want me create the w-2's, my problem is that they over withheld for pa income taxes. Should I report the withholding that they paid in, even if it is more then the correct tax rate?

    Thanks,

    Overpayment

You probably need to check the rules that are specific to Pennsylvania.

If they have already remitted the payment to the Pennsylvania tax authority, then you probably need to report what they actually withheld, and the employees will get a refund.

But check the Pennsylvania rules first. Maybe they should file an amended 941, or whatever the Pennsylvania form number is.

You (we) do not report anything. We simply prepare a W-2 and other tax forms based on information client provides, the exceptions being if something really looks fishy. (grin)
