    FL AC Tax Credit

Client who moved to FL at the beginning of 2011 asked me to "check into a government tax credit for FL new AC system, saying it's energy efficient and the vendors state you get one from government for this since every home must have AC." Since she has no FL income tax return to file, is this a federal credit or something she applies for to some government unit in FL?

Any FL preparers out there who have heard of the AC credit?

it would be nice if every home in Florida had AC but there are plenty of homes without AC.
As far as I know there is no "law" of this kind.

I think you can get rebates from some electric companies if you put in a new energy efficient unit.

Someone else may know more than me, though.

        Fl

I found three bills on the FL website that died in committee in either the FL house or senate. We have federal credits for metal roofs, windows/doors, solar, geothermal, and not much else. I told her to check with her utility and to ask her installer who gave her all that valuable tax information to provide documentation.

The federal nonbusiness energy property credit is still around for 2011, though the limits are much smaller than they were previously. See the Form 5695 instructions for line 6a.

            Thanx

Thanx, Gary. I saw the heat pump and breezed right through the rest of those instructions and missed AC, I guess since her contracter told her $500 and that's a $300 section of the form I was looking for something different.
