EA Renewals: Did You Receive Your EA Card?
Faithful readers have seen for weeks (and weeks) news about the delayed renewal cycle for those with SSNs terminating in 4, 5, or 6. We've suggested you should have your card in hand by the end of November. In our last edition, we stated that if by December 1 you do not have your new EA card, please sent NAEA an email letting us know.
We have started to receive a number of phone calls and e-mail requests. While we love talking with you, e-mail is more efficient (we'll shoot you a confirmation e-mail letting you know we're in receipt of your request). Please include your name, address, EA number, and if you have it, the date you sent in your renewal and the date IRS accepted your payment. The GR team is in the process of creating our first list, and expects to ship it off by next Tuesday or Wednesday to the RPO staffer in charge of the Detroit processing center.
As an aside, IRS recently announced that it will be adding a new option to the PTIN system (in mid-December) for users who need to change the e-mail address associated with their online PTIN account. This functionality will also help those who have forgotten their user IDs and/or passwords and don't have access to their original e-mail accounts. Those of you in this boat are encouraged to wait for the online option instead of filing the paper Form W-12, which can take up to six weeks to process.
