    Form 2848...originals mailed to Rep?

Question on my Part 3 EA practice exam ask:

Can the IRS send original notices to a taxpayer's representative?

    A. No, the IRS can only send copies.
    B. No, the IRS will send originals only to the taxpayer.
    C. Yes, if a power of attorney has been filed.
    D. Yes, if a power of attorney has been filed that specifically provides for this.

The practice exam says C is the answer above yet I read over form 2848 and unless I missed something, the Rep can only receive copies.

I would write to the publisher of the exam question and point it out to them.
    Item 7 - on P. 2 of Form 2848 specifically states that the taxpayer gets the original;
    the representative gets a copy.

      Depends. The e-filed 2848 through e-services:

      7. Notices and communications:
      a. If you want the first representative listed on line 2 to receive the original, and yourself a copy, ........................

The answer would be D, correct?

What is the difference between the original and a copy? They are probably both printed from the same computer file.

Have you never received the copy?

I have fought the IRS many times on not receiving the copy. My client calls me and wants to know what I think of the IRS response and I have no copy. I wait several days and none arrives.

I call the IRS, yes I am on the 2848, must have been lost in the mail!

          Time after time after time.

I have complained, doesn't any good.

But, when I enter the 2848 through e-services, I do get the original. I assume!
