To follow up how I resolved the issue: The client pulled up bank statements online from where they were staying and went through the checks and were able to provide me with a list of checks they had not deducted, and I also found more. So I filed the return with those deductions, but didn't estimate any figures for others that may have been missed.

Today my bookkeeper will sit down and input the 12 months of bank statements and we'll see what changes there are to be made. IMO I prepared the most accurate return I could given the information provided. My client was comfortable with this.

Without a signature, you have no choice other than to wait for them to return. Then they can let you know what they want to do.
I fax/email 8879 forms for signatures all the time - most of my clients I have never met. Really.

And one would hope you do not efile the actual tax returns until you have the client-signed Form 8879 (to include any necessary state equivalents), or at least a valid copy of the signed forms, firmly in hand.

I also have several clients whom I've never met face-to-face, but that is a separate issue.

Grr...and guess which efiled return is the only one rejected? This one. Client got married this year and wife's social and name don't match. Susi...I bet it's Susan.

That should be an EASY fix.

Sounds as if the wife still has either her "old" name on Social Security records or (assuming she notified them of her married name in the first place) the paperwork has not yet completely processed.

If Jane Jones married Bob Smith, and you called her Jane Smith, suggest you try Jane Jones instead and refile.

FWIW: That's why it is always a good idea to photocopy the Social Security card for your records....

            Last Name

The check is the first four letters of the last name with the SS#. Don't worry about her first name. Just try maiden or married last name, whichever one you didn't use before.
