NT: Internet Security MAJ or anyone else

I am looking for a true internet security program which will protect not only from viruses but also from malicious websites and spyware as well as rootkits and keyloggers.

I also want it to run on an XP machine that has only 2GB of memory.

Free is preferred....AVG is free, but that is only for the antivirus. I am having trouble finding a real security product that is free and provides the kind of protection I need. I am currently using Norton Internet Security and was hoping to trade it in for a free product. Thanks.

    Security

I just do as my techie tells me, but I have the free version of AVG for antivirus and the free version of Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware, also. I have AVG scheduled, but the free version of Malwarebyte doesn't allow for scheduling of scans. So, I leave it in plain sight on my quick launch strip at the bottom of my desktop to remind me to run it.

I agree that AVG is fine for detecting viruses, but I am looking for greater protection than that. I am really concerned about malicious websites and keyloggers and the like. I have a friend whose machine was hacked and it was a mess. She is running AVG free. They have a full package for $55 which looks like it does what I need, but I cannot find if it will run on a memory constrained machine and I am not looking to spend $55.

        How much is it worth?

How much is it worth to you NOT to go through the mess that your friend did? What is your time worth? And, it's a business deduction!

My techie put the free versions on my brand new computer, but I'm also deciding what to buy. Protecting an important business tool is worth the price. And, some free versions cover you for personal use but give no warranty for business use.

I am real happy with Webroot Internet Security Suite. I believe it's around $80 for three licenses, which I all use for my computer, my laptop and my netbook. It's give a wide range of protection plus the option to send large files, or any files for that matter, over the internet.

I used to have different companies for different security goals, but when I upgraded to a Windows 7 computer I wanted to find one real good catch it all program. But of course it also works with Windows XP.

It's one of best rated security software and DOES NOT eat up the resources of of your computer like Norton does.

I also used AVG full version and I got a trojan on it. Big mess. Thankfully it was my home computer. I switched to Avast just antivirus pro version. I have not had any problems since and that was three years ago. It will actually block website pages from opening if something suspected pops up. Also blocks programs from running and will ask if you want to install or run it.

I also have Malwarebytes. Both have caught suspicious websites and files.

              Paying for protection

Well, when you get get something for free you often do get your money's worth.......

For something as important as your (business) computers, why not spend a little coin for some reliable protection??

I've been using Trend Micro Internet Security Pro for several years. Aside from the "normal" (virus) stuff, it also blocks other malware and "knows" what web sites should be avoided. It also notes/removes unwanted (tracking) cookies that could create problems.

Another issue you need to address, especially if you use laptops and public Wi-Fi, is protecting your signal from hackers. And if you have a router at home/work, I assume you have it securely password protected as well.

I would strongly suggest you check to be sure all system updates (SP3 for Win XP) are installed and that unnecessary clutter (use "disk cleanup") has been removed, and that unneeded junk is not in your start menu. The 2 GB of memory might work quite well.
