    Day Care set-up

I have several questions related to set up of an in-home daycare...
Client bought about $7000 of toys, musical equip, etc. Are these considered start-up costs?

Also fenced the yard in, specifically because of the day-care. Is the whole cost of the fence considered a bus exp?

I would suggest that toys etc. are 5 or 7 year machinery & equipment (unless they last a year or less) and the fence is 15 year land improvement. What say yee Bees?

      $7000 for an in-home daycare

Sounds kinda high. In my state (NC) an in-home center can only have 5 kids. Don't think you would need that much stuff for 5 kids. Sounds like they may be buying stuff for their own kids and looking to deduct it.

I do agree that it is 7 year property and the fence is a land improvement.

        Depends on number

of adults for supervision. I know people around here that have day-care facilities in their home but they are licensed by state and follow state guidelines. You can only have a certain number of children per adult to supervise. So if this person was employing other qualifed "teachers" she could have more children.

Besides have you priced toys and playground equipment lately? My daughter said she was in Sams last week and they had a very nice outdoor gym or whatever you call it and it was $1000. If you had many kids you'd probably need at least a couple of those.

I told her she needed to get all her friends with little kids to go in together and buy it and put it where they can all use it.
