    Interesting new QB feature..

the 2012 version apparently has can make a "datebound" period data backup. Think about a IRS request for the QB file in relation to a 2009 audit. Apparently, you can now make a data file with just that period included (with some limits on linked transactions from another periods).

Maybe next week, I'll test it. The preview copies are now available for download. How interesting..

Good thing they are doing that. I was on the verge of suggesting that my clients move to another bookkeeping program after hearing some of the rumblings about IRS info requests during audits of people using QB. No fishing expeditions allowed in this office...

You may want to hold off on the download. As usual in their rush to get a product out there, Intuit has found some kind of error with the registration process. An email came out to Pro Advisors the other day warning of this. Just one more reason to consider dropping my membership to that program.

Maybe not a reason to drop.

I kinda like getting quick notice of a problem. However, the waiting to next week had to do with that notice and the promise to have it fixed then.

Even at that, it will be exploring only, no need to rush client work to the "bleeding edge" of technology.

          Qb2011

Just got an email from QB pushing their 2012 version.

The Service has already purchased thousands of copies (or however many) of QB 20xx. No doubt the Service worked a sweet license ageement with QB for probably $20 per copy. Now they will need to buy thousands more copies of QB2012 & for future years since it is not backward compatible.

So is the Service now ready to buy all these copies of 2012?

Or do we need to make sure we are using a version the IRS does not have yet?
