    Issuing 1099s

I have over the years heard the most ridiculous excuses for not wanting to issue 1099s.

Maybe the classic was "He is drawing disability, and if I give him a 1099 it will just mess him up."

    The latest? (You'll love it...)

"I'm sure Eddie is already claiming the income, so I don't have to give him one...."

    Issuing 1099 forms

Besides the client excuses for not wanting to issue 1099 forms, or not acquiring the proper information, IRS certainly does not make it easy on us as preparers.

IRS should change the archaic system of having to file in via mail and the red copies - I wouldn't "whine" so much if they could be submitted on plain paper much the same as the W-2 forms. - it is only those of us that have access to the "FIRE" system or use and pay for an electronic filing provider, some of which are very costly that can have the forms completed and filed electronically.

Sandy...can't they be filed for free through EFTPS?
Believe nothing you have not personally researched and verified.

        It's the new millenium

Get a software package that supports the electronic filing of 1099 forms. I have been E-Filing 1099 forms for the past few years. It is so much easier then dealing with the red forms.

            software for 1099s/W2s

We have used LaserLink for the past 10 years. This past year was the first time we used it to e-file the 1099s and W2s. There is no additional fee to efile the forms but it is difficult to match up the accepted files with the processed forms because they use a silly batch system.

The forms get filed in late March and the acceptance does not list the filer's name so matching uop the originals with the accepted files is a pain.

Anyone have any better experience with Magtax or other software programs?

To e-file a tax return we need the taxpayer(s) to sign the 8879.

Is there a requirement for the taxpayer's signature to e-file the 1099's?

Now if it were FREE , I would be doing it. (grin)

However the F in EFTPS stands for "funds", and is a function of the Department of the treasury, not IRS.

                    No signatures required on 1099's

I have been fairly happy with this service:

I see that CFS Taxtools have an add-on e-file module for their W-2/1099 module. Does anyone of you use it?

                      Satisfied?

ATX Max allows efiling for 1099's and w-2's (with a link thru SSA). This year for the first time I also had to efile a corrected 1099. It is so much easier than using the red forms, but I wonder if IRS is still requiring it so that many of us will go the efile route.

I don't believe it is an add-on for Tax Tools,
I used to be able to actually print (pre-efile) of 1099 forms from Fill N Print - and I believe they discontinued that.
I believe you have to purchase the W2/1099 Payroll System, then purchase the add-on for the w2/1099 efile add-on.
I don't need the W-2 system - so a little pricey for just 1099 forms.

Here is the link to their website and products, etc http://www.taxtools.com/
