I would probably stay clear from a Lexmark

I purchased a B/W Lexmark for which I know you desire a Color printer but my Lexmark hesitates when printing multi pages like tax returns.

        Hp

For our home computer I recently bought an HP photosmart printer for $75 which we are very happy with. It connects to the computer using USB. If you are buying a printer for an older computer make sure you have an available USB port or find a used printer that connects with a parallel port. I can't find the model number. I was choosing bertween one that had a fax and the one I bought without (we don't need a fax for personal reasons).

For home and wife for her photo's and e-Baying I have an HP Photosmart C7250. It prints, copies, FAXes, and scans. It also has the ports for the camera chips so download photos.

          Wife loves it.

My daughter does photography with 4-H. I quickly learned I was going to go broke getting photographs printed at the likes of Walmart (color quality was lacking). I took her disk and had the photos printed by a photographer and observed what printer he was using. It was a professional Canon printer. After a bit of research I found the Canon MX870 which is also a scanner/copier (albeit not fast). I bought it from Staples for about $80.00 after bringing a dead printer in for recycling. The refill ink is very cheap. I am astounded by the quality of the prints from this little printer and very happy with it. I've even seen the printer for as low as $50.00... Do not let the price put you off...give it a try, you will be pleasantly surprised.

Ditto on the Canon MX870. It's much too low capacity for office use, but for home use, it's a wonderful combination of scanner/fax/copier/printer. I especially love having double sided printing and scanning. I also like being able to start scans at the scanner instead of having to start them at the computer. I get refills from Costco online, cheap, fast, and no shipping charges.

On the downside, the documentation is weak, and using it to receive the occasional fax on the main home line is a pain. Fortunately, that's rare.
