    Tax Representation

I was going to attend a seminar on tax representation but they canceled on me. The NAEA / NTPI seminar isn't possible for me to make now with such short notice. Hopefully next year I can make one of these.

I noticed the ASTPS has a training manual they sell. Has anyone tried that? It seems to be something that follows the boot camp model pretty closely? Don't know if that's true or not.

I tend to learn better via a book or manual than I would in the seminar / classroom setting. This seems like it would work for me but I'm wondering if anyone has experience with the PTA training manual they sell. It's $250 so I don't want to buy it if someone knows it's worthless. Thanks

I don't know about that one.

But ThomsonReuters has a GearUp self-study course that isn't bad. And if you get the 2010 version, which is available now, it's only $89 for 8 CPE units.

I have it...haven't gone through it yet but it is a way to take the three years of courses the NTPI offers all at once. They only offer 1 of the three parts each year. I didn't want to take that long to finish it.

Does the ASTPS manual appear to be quality stuff that you could follow and learn from or is it little more than an outline?

I won't be doing representation on anything more than a very limited basis. Getting the full credential seems overkill. Investing $4,000 in a credential 99.9% of the population hasn't heard of seems silly for me.

          Naea

NAEA offers many of the NTPI courses on line. And if you purchase the payment coupons for a few courses, it becomes a very reasonable price. As I understand it, you can mix these courses with "in person" ones to complete the entire course. We were told a couple of weeks ago that they are working to add more courses to the online availability.

Only in government or politics is a "cut in spending" really an increase. It's just not as much of an increase as they wanted it to be, therefore a "cut".

You don't need to pay for the credential...you only need to know how to do the work. Yes, the program has four various paged 3 ring binders and 20 or so DVD/s. very thorough.

I had planned to attend the NAEA/NPTI but couldn't because of my accident. I plan to use there online course, of which all subjects of the first part are available for self study for a reasonable price. I will wait until October though since some subjects will be updated.

With things changing so fast, especially OIC, I don't want to learn outdated ones.
