    Excel 2007 question

For years I have been shutting off the option which allows "editing directly in cells." On older versions this can be found in "Tools/Options/Edit/Settings/EditDirectlyInCells." When this is turned on, you may double-click on a cell and edit the formula without having to go to the formula line. When this is turned OFF, double-clicking on the cell will navigate directly to the source of the formula - even if the source is another cell, another spreadsheet, or even another file.

I have preferred to turn the "editing direct in cells" feature OFF, as the above-described feature just simply works better for me.

However, I have just installed Excel 2007, that horrible new software that I have resisted for four years. In the totally revised menu selections, I do not find "Editing directly in cells." The editing in cells appears to be a default that I can't cancel. Can anyone help me? The other option (described above) is really better for me.

Try this: File > Options > Advanced > in editing options "Allow Editing Directly in Cells" unclick the box

    Hope that helps,

      Problem Solved

MacTools, thanks. Appears to work fine.
